Ok, today's been fairly active blogger-wise & looking through my old posts here I've decided some need re-vamping, updating & completing :) x
Wish i'd done this earlier, I'd have gotten graded for it. I'm enjoying doing it now though. Love keeping creatively active, learning & discovering things as well as becoming newly inspired. I may not have chosen a specialism at college, well, not more defined than working in the creative industries & for me at the moment that's alright. I'm happy doing what I'm doing at the moment & I'm doing well, i think.

Damien Hirst Fertility 'Verity'
Not someone i thought i'd be blogging about in a positive manner tbh after his work with butterflies.
Daily Mail -RSPCA-attacks--Damien-Hirst-exhibition. watched-9-000-butterflies-die-walls
I did my final essay of my BTEC on Fertility & today i stumble on a news tid-bit about a statue of his being erected in Ilfracombe, Devon (UK), i google it & find this isn't his first encounter with exploring the idea of fertility in art.
I made myself vaguely familiar with his work in the first year of my BTEC, so I'm aware this isn't his first piece depicting human biology or Fertility in particular.

Facts about Verity
- At 20.25m from plinth to sword-tip, Verity is slightly taller than the Angel Of The North
- She weighs more than 25 tonnes
- Verity is described a modern-day allegory for truth and justice
- The figure's stance is taken from Edgar Degas' Little Dancer of Fourteen Years (c. 1881) referenced by Hirst in his earlier bronze Virgin Mother (2005)
- She holds the traditional symbols denoting Justice - a sword and scales - though the scales are hidden behind her back
- Hirst's website notes: "Without the perfect equilibrium enacted by the scales, the sword becomes a dangerous instrument of power, rather than justice"
- Verity was made in more than 40 individual castings at Pangolin Editions foundry in Gloucestershire
- The entire piece has been tested to ensure it can withstand high winds and sea spray

Today
been creating Powerpoints using the wiki printout booklets i did before college broke up for half term.
im learning a lot, also been suing my notes & the images PHod gave me from class, which i am eternally grateful for.
made some for each class, which will be going into my contextual file as well as in the individual class files
liking the use of powerpoint for consistency & putting things in a visual logical order.

Contextual Artist Link - Hannah Hoch
for years & years i've had a black & white photocopy of this image on my bedroom wall, today i looked a little closer & discovered the artist name has been there all along.
She was around during DADA, I could have used her as part of last years Poster Project since my designated ERA was 1910-1919, I didn't even look into DADA, i wasn't aware of it as a movement, only knew it by name, i had no idea whatsoever that she was around then, hell, i only found out the sequential order of movements etc from the TATE artist timeline (Sara Fanelli) up on the notice board in the room we regularly used for history.
I have actual interest in history this year, I suppose its more the passion of my tutor & the way he guides us.

Contextual Art Link - POP ART, The Independent Group
already printed off an A5 9 page booklet from wiki about POP ART.
Highlighting it has made me look closer into mentionable things like The Independent Group
need to print following link as booklet: http: //en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Independent_Group
external link 2 on wiki "the independent group - fathers [& mothers] of pop 1990": http://www.artdesigncafe.com/The-Independent-Group-ICA-London-IG-library-1990
Eduardo Paulozzi - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eduardo_Paolozzi
'BUNK!' collection of 10 collages
also this one since there appears to be some discrepency aout when Paolozzi gave the lecture with the series of collages...
& have started a ppt (powerpoint presentation) as i find it easiest to present it that way in a logical order.

Something to keep in mind - The Art of Giving
http://www.artofgiving.co.uk/about-us/
About Us
Be the change you want to see in the world.
Mahatma Gandhi
Art of Giving supports, promotes and sells art while raising awareness and donating funds to charities. Set up by Tracey and Ben Bambrough, Art of Giving's mission is to bring together the sense of wellbeing that owning an original artwork can give with the positive feeling that comes from donating to an admired charity for the mutual benefit of artists and good causes.
Art of Giving holds art exhibitions and events featuring work of up-and-coming artists as well as work by established and celebrity artists. Each event also highlights the causes of a diverse variety of charities. All art will be for sale, with 50% of proceeds available to the artist and a substantial percentage to be donated to charity.
Tracey Bambrough, founder of Art of Giving says: "The purchase of any artwork tells a personal story and I believe this can be enhanced if the artwork also helps fund a worthy charity. Art of Giving was created to make a difference in the world through art."

Todays Lesson - Postponed 1 week
We were meant to do a presentation today, instead we had to go to a Student Finance talk instead.
Our curriculum leader/tutor(A-Cli), only found out this morning the time& date of the talk. Our History/Contextual Studies tutor(P-Hod) only found out just before lesson started. the talk lasted 45ish minutes, as always I took notes.
it was informative but I wish we'd had History instead :(
our presentations are due next week instead, which means as a group we're a week behind which doesn't thrill me but I'll just grin & bear it... ¬.¬
anyhoo, i thought of another product i can add into the good design list
Lush Product pots, the reward scheme & the closed thingy manufacture system :)
gotta love Green/Eco Friendly products :D & of course anything with a Fair Trade stamp, despite the lovely price difference which i do understand is entirely necessary

artist: Qi Gang
found out about this amazing designer through popular tv series ANTM: Americas Next Top Model
i can't remember which season, i just remember being incredibly inspired by him & his catwalkshow/exhibition of works shown in that episode.
unfortunately i no longer have access to Sky television so have become unable to watch subsequent series's since 2008ish.
